As landscape gardeners in Edinburgh and Midlothian, we design, build and maintain outdoor spaces for homeowners and businesses – every garden planned around your needs, lifestyle and budget.

What makes us different from a lot of landscape gardeners is that we're bricklayers first. The walls, steps, patios and edging that give a garden its shape are built by our own team, not subcontracted, so the design and the build are joined up from the first sketch to the last slab.

01

Landscape gardeners in Edinburgh who listen first

Every garden starts with a conversation, not a brochure. We want to know who uses the space, when the sun reaches it, where the wet corner is, whether there's a dog, how much time you want to spend looking after it and what you'd like it to feel like in five years. That's how we came up with ideas customers mention in their reviews: things they hadn't thought of that turned out to be the best part of the garden.

From there we put together a layout and a written quote. Bigger projects are phased if that suits your budget, so the structural work goes in first and the finishing touches follow.

What Edinburgh gardens need

Gardens across the city share a few challenges, and a design that ignores them tends to disappoint.

Slopes

Much of Edinburgh is built on hills, and plenty of back gardens fall away from or towards the house. Terracing with retaining walls and steps turns an awkward slope into usable levels.

Wet ground

Heavy, clay-rich soil is common, and lawns and patios struggle if water has nowhere to go. We plan falls, soakaways and drainage into the design rather than adding them later.

Shade and exposure

Tenement back greens and gardens between tall stone buildings can be shady and sheltered, while gardens on the edge of the city and out towards the Pentlands take the full force of the wind. Plant choice, fencing and seating position all follow from that.

Small spaces

Many city gardens are compact. Good design makes them feel bigger: fewer, larger paving units, built-in seating and storage, and planting that softens walls.

Homes and businesses

Most of our work is for homeowners, but we also maintain and improve outdoor spaces for commercial customers such as landlords, letting agents and small businesses that want a tidy, low-maintenance frontage.

Landscaping FAQs

Do you do the design and the build?

Yes. The same team plans the garden and builds it, which keeps the cost down and means nothing gets lost between a designer's drawing and a contractor's interpretation.

When is the best time to landscape a garden?

Hard landscaping can be done most of the year, though we avoid laying mortar and concrete in hard frost. Turf and planting do best in spring and autumn. Booking over winter often means an earlier start in spring.

Can you work to a budget?

Yes. Tell us your budget at the start and we'll design to it, or split the work into phases so the most important parts are done first.

Do I need to be at home while you work?

Not usually, as long as we can get into the garden and have access to water. We'll keep you updated at the end of each day.
