Not in Edinburgh? We cover your town too:
We lay garden paths in Edinburgh – front paths, side paths and garden steps – in paving, monoblock or stone to match your patio and driveway.
A path is used every day, in every weather, often in the dark. It needs to be level, firm, non-slip and wide enough for a bin or a buggy. A tired front path also lets down the whole frontage. Customers have reviewed us for exactly this kind of job: a front path renewed off Leith Walk at the same time as an awkward patio was relaid.

Garden paths in Edinburgh, front and back
Front paths
From the gate to the door: the first thing visitors see. We usually match the front path to the driveway or front wall, and make sure it's wide and level enough for safe access.
Side paths
Narrow paths down the side of the house are often uneven, shaded and green. A properly laid path with good drainage makes bin day much easier.
Garden paths
Paths across a lawn to a shed, greenhouse or seating area save wearing a muddy track. Stepping stones set into the lawn are an option for lighter use.
Steps
Steps between levels on sloping gardens or up to the front door, with consistent rise and tread so they're comfortable and safe.
02
Building paths that last
Proper base
Even a footpath needs a compacted sub-base, or it will sink and rock.
Edging
Firm edges stop paving and gravel spreading into the lawn.
Falls
Paths need a slight fall to shed water, so they don't puddle or ice up.
Width
We aim for at least enough width for a wheelie bin to pass comfortably.
Grip
Textured paving or riven stone in shady areas.
03
Building steps
Good steps are all about consistency. We keep every riser the same height and every tread the same depth, because a single odd step is what makes people trip. Steps are built on solid foundations, with treads overhanging slightly and laid to fall so water runs off. Where steps rise more than a few, we'll recommend a handrail.

Paths and steps across Edinburgh
We lay paths across the city and the Lothians, from tenement front paths in Leith and Gorgie to long garden paths in the suburbs and steep steps in Penicuik and the south of the city.

Garden path FAQs
Can you replace a path without disturbing the garden?
Mostly. We work within a narrow strip either side and reinstate turf or borders where we've disturbed them.
How long does a new path take?
A typical front path takes one to three days, depending on length and materials.
Do I need permission for a front path?
Usually not. A path is small and drains into the garden either side.
