A patio doesn't have to be replaced just because it's gone wrong. If the slabs themselves are sound, lifting them, sorting out the base and relaying them can bring a patio back for much less than a new one. Relaying
We carefully lift the slabs, clean off old mortar and set aside any that are sound. Then we dig out and rebuild the sub-base where it's failed, set the correct falls and relay on a full bed of mortar. Broken slabs are replaced with the closest match available. Where an exact match isn't possible, a contrasting border can make new and old work together.

Repointing
If the patio is level but the joints have failed, repointing is often enough. We rake out loose mortar and weeds, clean the joints and refill with mortar or a modern jointing compound. It makes an old patio look much fresher and stops water getting under the slabs. See also repointing.

Extending a patio
Many patios are too small for a table and chairs. We can extend an existing patio, matching the stone where possible, or relay the whole patio together with the extension in a new layout.

Check the drains
A patch of patio that keeps sinking is often sitting over a leaking drain or collapsed pipe washing the base away. If we suspect that, we'll tell you before relaying, because fixing the patio without fixing the drain just means it sinks again.

When a new patio makes more sense
If the slabs are thin concrete, badly stained or mismatched, or the whole base has failed, a new patio may cost little more than a full relay and look far better. We'll give you both options. See patios.
