Garden Fencing in Bonnyrigg

Privacy for new-build gardens, replacement fencing for older homes and stronger builds on the open edge of town.

We supply and fit garden fencing in Bonnyrigg and around Lasswade and Poltonhall – panel, closeboard and slatted fencing plus gates, on solid posts built for Scottish weather.

Fencing is often the first job new Bonnyrigg homeowners ask about. Estate gardens are close together and overlooked, and builder-fitted fences are rarely the strongest. In older parts of town, fences have been patched for years. And on the edges of town towards Rosewell and the open fields, the wind finds every weak post.

Garden fencing in Bonnyrigg: how we work

New-build estates

In Hopefield and Bonnyrigg's other newer developments, we replace or upgrade builder fencing with closeboard or panels on concrete-set posts, up to 2 metres high for privacy. Slatted screens near patios add shelter while letting light through.

Older homes in Poltonhall

Long back gardens with fencing on both sides and a mix of old panels, posts and repairs are typical. Replacing a whole side in one go gives a consistent look and new posts that will last.

Exposed edges of town

Homes in Rosewell and on the southern and western edges of Bonnyrigg face open countryside and take the wind. We use stronger closeboard or slatted fencing rather than solid panels and set posts deeper.

Sloping gardens in Lasswade

On steep plots we step panels or build closeboard to follow the ground so there are no gaps at the bottom, and set posts on the uphill and downhill sides to suit.

Boundaries and permission

Up to 2 metres at the back and sides usually doesn't need planning permission; anything over 1 metre in front of the house facing a road does. Some newer estates have title conditions on front fences, and Lasswade's conservation area has stricter rules on front boundaries. Check your deeds for who owns each boundary, and agree shared fences with your neighbour first.

03

Gates

Side gates, back gates and gates matched to new fencing, hung on solid posts with good hinges and latches. See garden gates.

Bonnyrigg fencing FAQs

Concrete or timber posts?

Concrete posts with concrete gravel boards last longest with panel fences. Treated timber posts suit closeboard. Both are set in concrete.

Can you work with my neighbour on a shared fence?

Yes. We can quote so you can split the cost and agree the style together.

How long does it take?

Most back gardens are done in one to two days.
