Not in Edinburgh? We cover your town too:
If a wall is leaning, cracked or has come down, our garden wall repairs in Edinburgh cover everything from rebuilding a damaged section to removing old foundations and putting in new ones.
The first job is always working out why the wall failed. Patch over the symptom and the same crack or lean comes back. Fix the cause and the repair lasts.

Garden wall repairs in Edinburgh, from cracks to full rebuilds

These are the problems we're called out to most often, and what they usually mean.
| What you can see | Likely cause | Usual fix |
|---|---|---|
| Wall leaning along its length | Shallow or failed foundation, or soil and water pushing from behind | Take down and rebuild on a new footing, with drainage if it retains ground |
| Stepped crack following the mortar joints | Ground movement under one part of the wall, often from roots or a leaking drain | Deal with the cause, then rebuild the cracked section |
| Bulge in the middle of a run | Wall too thin for its height, or no piers on a long run | Rebuild the section with piers or a thicker build |
| Loose or missing copings | Failed bedding mortar, frost or impact | Re-bed or replace copings |
| Crumbling, flaking bricks | Frost damage to bricks that stay wet | Cut out and replace bricks; fix whatever keeps the wall wet |
| Mortar falling out of joints | Age and weather | Repointing |
| Section knocked down | Vehicle, fallen tree or storm | Clear, check the foundation, rebuild to match |
02
Repair or rebuild?

We'll always give you the honest answer, and where both options are reasonable we'll quote for both.
A repair makes sense when the foundation is sound and the damage is limited: a cracked section, a few blown bricks, loose copings or tired mortar. A rebuild makes sense when the wall is leaning along its length, the footing has failed or is missing, or the wall was never built to hold the ground behind it. Propping a wall like that, or pinning a crack, buys a little time but costs money twice.
We reuse sound bricks and copings wherever we can. That keeps the look of the original wall and cuts the cost of new materials.

Case study: rebuilding a 27.5-metre collapsed wall
One of our biggest repair jobs was for a customer in Edinburgh whose 27.5-metre double-skin brick wall had collapsed. Part of it was also holding back the ground behind, which is why it failed: the original footing wasn't up to the load.
Patching wasn't an option. We cleared the fallen brickwork, dug out the old foundations and poured new ones sized for a wall that retains soil. With a team of six on site, we rebuilt the full run in two weeks.

04
Is a damaged wall dangerous?

It can be. A wall leaning towards a pavement, driveway or play area can fall without much warning, especially after heavy rain or a storm.
If yours is moving, keep people and cars clear of it and get it looked at.
As the owner you're generally responsible for keeping a garden wall safe. If the wall is shared with a neighbour, your title deeds may set out how repair costs are split. We're happy to talk both of you through what's needed and give one quote you can share.

How a wall repair works
- 1
Assess
We look at the wall, the foundation where we can, the ground behind and anything nearby such as trees, drains or downpipes that may have caused the damage.
- 2
Make safe
If a wall is unstable, we can take the dangerous section down first.
- 3
Quote
You get a written quote explaining the cause, what we'll do and what's included.
- 4
Repair or rebuild
Old brickwork carefully taken down, sound bricks cleaned and set aside, new foundation where needed, then rebuilt to match.
- 5
Clear up
Rubble and spoil removed and the site left tidy.

Wall repair FAQs
Can you repair just part of a wall?
Yes, if the rest of the wall and its foundation are sound. We'll tie the new section into the old and match brick and mortar as closely as possible.
How do you match the old brick and mortar?
We reuse the original bricks wherever they're sound. For new bricks we look for the closest match, including reclaimed bricks for older walls, and we mix mortar to suit the colour and strength of the existing joints.
A tree is pushing my wall over. What can be done?
Roots lifting a footing are a common cause of cracks and leaning. Sometimes we can bridge the foundation over roots; sometimes the tree is the bigger issue. If the tree is protected or in a conservation area, you'll need council consent before any work on it.
How quickly can you come out?
We aim to get to collapsed or dangerous walls quickly, and photos sent in advance help us prioritise.
